Founded in 1951, Atlas emerged as India's largest bicycle manufacturer by 1965. Despite challenges, it remains a trusted choice, reviving its operations to reclaim market prominence, with numbers of bicycle segments to cater all kinds of buyer demand.
Atlas Cycle, an Indian bicycle manufacturer, was founded in 1951 by Janki Das Kapur, in a small shed house in Sonipat, Haryana, For the first year of its bicycle production the company produced 12,000 units. Atlas Cycle emerged as India’s largest bicycle manufacturer by 1965, all thanks to the leadership skills of Janki Das Kapur. The company has played an important role in the industrial development of India, and holds an honorary heritage and legacy even when we have almost covered one-fourth of the 21st Century.
In the 1950s after receiving huge success in India, Atlas started expanding its offering in Myanmar and South Africa. By the arrival of the 21st century, the brand was exporting its cycle to 50 countries worldwide.
Some of the significant examples to understand the value of Atlas in the bicycle market is such that the brand became the official supplier of bicycles for the 1982 Asian Games in New Delhi. India’s first racing bicycle was introduced by Atlas in late 1970s.
Though the brand has faced challenges in the 2010s, leading to closure of many manufacturing centres, Covid 19 also affected the brands plans and marketing strategies drastically.
Despite all the hardships that Atlas has gone through in its success journey, the brand still stands tall and one of the most trusted and prime choices among India bicycle buyers. The company has started reviving its operations and regaining its position in the Indian bicycle market.
