BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke) AG is a German-based international manufacturer of luxury vehicles. BMW was incorporated in 1916 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany, to manufacture aircraft engines which continued till 1918 and started again from 1933 to 1945. The brand markets its automobile products with the brand name BMW, Mini, and Rolls Royce, while motorcycles are manufactured and marketed with the brand name BMW Motorrad.

These bicycles feature well-engineered designs, high-quality and lasting components, and comfortable construction. BMW mostly uses aluminum and carbon fiber composites to support its bicycle design and meet users’ ride needs. The brand tries to meet the ride needs of each kind of rider, especially kids, men, and women.

BMW’s Founding Years

Karl Rapp and Gustav Otto are the founders of BMW. In 1916, the Flugmaschinenfabrik Gustav Otto
company merged into Bayerische Flugzeug-Werke AG (BFW) at the government's request. In 1917, the Rapp Motorenwerke company changed its name to Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH, which was subsequently converted into an AG (public limited company) in 1918. BMW AG then transferred its engine construction operations, including the company and brand names, to BFW in 1922. As a result, the founding date of BFW, March 7, 1916, has been recorded in history as the founding date of Bayerische Motoren Werke AG.

The First BMW Motorbike

The success story of BMW motorbikes started at the Berlin Motor Show in 1923. The aero-engine company launched its first motorcycle with the BMW R 32. The machine's quality played a significant role in its success. All of the pieces that were likely to require maintenance were wrapped, and the driving shaft was easier to service than traditional chains or belts. Along with the cardan shaft, the Boxer engine, which has cylinders positioned transverse to the direction of motion, is still a hallmark of BMW motorcycles. Max Friz created the R 32's highly successful overall design, which is recognized as a milestone in motorcycle history.

The Era of Growth in BMW History

In 1928, BMW entered the automobile business by acquiring a company named Fahrzeugfabrik Eisenach. Then the company produced its first car under license from Austin Motor Company in 1929.

Then in 1932, BMW started to build its own designs for automobiles. Then the company shifted its focus to build military machines in the World War Era. After 20 years, in 1952, the company resumed producing motorcycles and launched the R 51/3 model, and revived its motorcycle division.

Jumping to the 1950s, the company produced its first-ever bicycle, which was made of aluminum, that was the reason it became notable around the world. Moreover, the company has seen success by expanding its automobile lineup with some successful models such as BMW 1500 in 1960. Moreover, BMW became the official vehicle supplier for the Munich Olympics in 1972, which was a significant move that made BMW so popular around the world.

Moving forward to the 1980s, BMW innovated its automotive technologies like turbocharging and safety features and never looked back. Then the company acquired some brands like the Rover Group in 1994, and the Mini in 1998.

Then in the 2000s, the company started focusing on sustainable production of vehicles and afterward, in 2011, BMW launched the i series, which made its entry into electric mobility. These models include the BMW i3 and i8. Since then, the company has been aggressively working on developing more innovative electric vehicles and is expected to sell approximately 4.6 million fully electric vehicles by 2030.
